First things First in Year One!

Congratulations to the Year One students on their first term in Year One.

The children have made a successful leap from half days in Reception (last year) to full action-packed days in Year One, which started on 4th September.

Here are some of the exciting things we have done and continue to do  in Year One

Everyday at school during Literacy we are steadily improving our letter sounds through games, reading, writing and other activities. Our homework is normally a reinforcement of what we learned during the week in Literacy and maths.

In November we visited the Ceramic Café in Heliopolis.We had fun painting ceramic models of birds, ponies, tortoises and mugs, which were then fired in a kiln.  The milkshakes we had there were tasty too. Our ceramics are now on display in our classrooms.  This excursion was a great celebration to the end of our topic work on Ourselves.

Among our many different classes outside of our homerooms, each Year One class has a Library session every week where we can choose a variety of books.  Sometimes we choose to read fairytales, other times we choose topic related books and other times we like to read books about animals and nature.Reading is always an adventure.  The children return their books every week and leave the Library with a brand new book to read for the week ahead.We learn a lot and enjoy our selves while we do in Year One!
