Personal, Social and Emotional Development

In Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) we will talk about friendships and being kind to each other. We will learn the importance of telling the truth and how our actions can sometimes hurt others.

Literacy/Communication and Language

Our focus stories will be fairy tales. We shall listen to classic tales such as 'The Gingerbread Man' and 'Cinderella'. We will work on listening effectively and asking questions, along with developing our vocabulary. Children will use adjectives to describe characters and story settings. Through our fun role play areas, children will have plenty of opportunities to act out the fairy tales they hear.

In Mathematics we will be working with numbers to twenty and beyond. Children will have plenty of opportunities to reinforce their knowledge of addition and subtraction through adding castles and subtracting ducks. We will recap on positional language and ordering numbers.

Understanding the World

Our first topic this term is 'Let's Pretend'. We will be holding a 'Fairy Tale Dress-up Day'. Children will be encouraged to come to school dressed as their favourite fairy tale character. We will focus on History this term, by looking at castles around the world and famous story tellers. We will also complete a topic about 'Food', in which we will learn about food from around the world and how it is grown.

Physical Development/Expressive Arts and Design

We will start the term by creating fun and interactive fairy tale role play areas for the children to use. Children will develop their fine motor skills by making puppets using a variety of different materials. During our 'Food' topic, children will create pictures using vegetable peelings and make fruit using salt dough. We will end the term holding a 'Fairy Tale' singing concert.
